Over the past six weeks, about 650 people have been competing to lose big at the YMCA.

And today both the male and female winners were honored.

Amber Mucker lost 24 pounds, and Ron Hopkins lost 38.6 pounds in the 9th annual Holiday Trimmings competition.

They say they did a variety of workouts from walking, to lifting weights, and even Zumba.

They also focused on eating healthy filling their plates with fruits and vegetables.

So the two competitors' tactics to get to the top were pretty much similar, but their motivation was not.

"I just look in the mirror and I didn't like what I was seeing so thought it was time to do something about it," said Ron Hopkins, the male Holiday Trimmings winner.

"I am a nursing student and I want to lead by example I want to show people how to be healthy, I don't want to only tell them what to do," said Amber Mucker, the Holiday Trimmings Female winner.

Both winners are excited, but they say it's only the beginning in reaching their weight loss goals.
