The Duncan Area Economic Development Foundation is assisting dozens of people recently laid off by Halliburton.

On Sunday, Halliburton started laying off 130 people from its manufacturing department.

The company had previously informed employees of their plans to downsize the department.

So to help lessen the impact in the area the Duncan Area Economic Development Foundation immediately stepped in to help those people with its Rapid Response program.

"That is where the employment agencies, the DHS, all the different service organizations and the educational institution come together and say this is an opportunity for those individuals to either change the career that they've been engaged in or here's how you go through the process of getting yourself back into maybe a training program and back to being re-employed," says Lyle Roggow, president of the Duncan Area Economic Development Foundation.

Official's in Halliburton's Houston office say the laid off employees have been offered severance packages and pay In lieu of notice.

Although unemployment in Duncan is 4.4%, economic development officials believes the 130 people who are now unemployed will be able to find gainful work again.
