MLK Jr.'s Nephew Continues Uncle's Legacy

By: KFDX News
Updated: January 21, 2013

Today is Martin Luther King Junior day, a day we honor the legacy of Doctor King through service and volunteering.

This weekend his nephew spoke in Aurora, Colorado. Reverend Derek Barber King Senior is a well known preacher, instructor and activist. He's taken up his uncle's causes- fighting racism, discrimination, oppression and violence.

Reverend King said, "Those of us who are seriously committed to the legacy that Martin Luther King Jr. left us, I hope you are not comfortable in the seat of do nothingism or postured comfortably at the place of stand stillness, in my opinion, the time is right, the climate is perfect, for the work to be continued."

He was just 14 years old when his uncle died.
