Southwest Airlines Settles In Battle Over Beverages

By: Karel Davis
Updated: January 21, 2013
A battle over beverages comes to a conclusion after Southwest Airlines reaches a tentative settlement over a voucher for a free alcoholic drink. The five dollar vouchers were given to business select passengers. Although the vouchers did not have an expiration date ... the airline changed its policy on August 1, 2010 and canceled unused vouchers. In 2011, a class action lawsuit was filed.
So now, under the settlement, Southwest Airlines will redeem up to nearly 6 million vouchers worth about 29 million dollars. The airline must also pay legal fees up to 7 million dollars.
