Wichita Falls Metro Area Unemployment Rate Rises in December

The unemployment rate in the City of Wichita Falls as well as the Wichita Falls metro area rose slightly in December from the month before, but is still down about a full point from the same time a year ago.

The rate in the city went up a tenth of a percentage point from November, but is down  from December last year.
     
The rate  for the local metro area of Wichita, Clay and Archer counties also rose just slightly to 5.5% in December from November. Thats down though from 6.4% the year before.

The jobless rate for the state is down for the fourth straight month, at 6.1%. The lowest metro rate in the state was Midland, at 3.1%.

The average rate in this region was 5.1%, down from 6.4% in December of 2011. Wilbarger County had one of the lowest rates at 4% while Wichita County had the high rate of 5.7%. Archer came in with 4.4% and Clay County at 4.6%.
