An age group that can often be preyed upon by criminals is learning to one way to protect themselves thanks to Georgia's Chatham County Sheriff's Office.
A group of senior friends are all taking the sheriff's Civilian Gun Safety Course together.
"The times are so different we're now seeing things happen that we never saw things happen before, and you just need it for security," says Ruth Mullins.
Learning how to use a gun properly is arming the elderly with confidence.
Margo Lang says the times have changed and so has she.
"You have to keep your eyes wide open all the time. I think you're not safe any place anymore," she says.
