A Stockton, California family is awaiting a decision from San Joaquin County Animal Control, hoping that its neighbor's two purebred English Bulldogs are ordered to be euthanized.

The Hammond family said that action is justified after the bulldogs viciously attacked and nearly killed its dog, Samantha, in the family's backyard on Oro Avenue last Tuesday.

Samantha, a greyhound-pit bull mix, is recovering on a blanket in the Hammonds' front room.

Her ears are completely gone and her body is filled with staples and stitches.

Security video of the backyard shows two bulldogs pushing through a fence just before the dogs launch a relentless attack against the female dog.

Douglas Hammond, 19, ran into the backyard with a large plastic pipe, repeatedly striking the bulldogs in an effort to stop the attack.

"That's when I started to call the cops, because they didn't care that I was even around," Hammond said. "They didn't want to stop."

Hammond said the attack lasted 45 minutes before sheriff's deputies, using night sticks, finally clubbed the bulldogs -- causing them to stop biting Samantha.
