Lawton Prisoner Pleads Guilty to Inmate Killing

A Lawton prison inmate charged in an earlier inmate killing has decided to plead guilty. Joseph Derek Palone pleaded to first degree manslaughter and received a 35-year sentence.

That sentence will be served after he completes his 10-year sentence out of Tulsa County for attempted robbery and concealing stolen property.

Authorities say Palone beat and possibly strangled his cellmate, Matthew Dorrough last February. Palone claimed he was acting in self defense after Dorrough started a fight.
