Just a little after a week after the body of a former Sheppard jet pilot trainer was found off the coast of Italy, his baby girl has been born. The family posted the news today on the memorial web site of Major Lucas Gruenther.
They say both baby Serene and mother Cassy are doing fine. Serene was born at 6:44 Italian time this morning.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday at Aviano Air Force Base in Italy for the pilot lost at sea, who trained and later was a jet pilot trainer himself at Sheppard Air Force Base.
The 31st Training Wing will hold the service for Captain Lucas Gruenther in a base hangar.
Gruenther's body was found last Wednesday in the Adriatic Sea. He went missing January 28 on a 4-plane night training mission.
Gruenther had been selected for promotion to major and has been promoted posthumously.
His family has set up a web site in his honor where friends can post memories and messages for the family.
It also has links for a memorial fund for his child who is due to be born within days.
