The city of Wichita Falls will officially enter stage three emergency drought water restrictions as of midnight tonight.
City officials call the situation critical and say the water in the lakes has reached the trigger point of 40 percent capacity.
Officials say the situation the city is now in built up after several years.
Wichita Falls Public Works Director Russel Schreiber said,
"We are entering the third year of extreme drought conditions in the City of Wichita Falls. These conditions began back in 2011 with the single worst year of drought in the State of Texas."
Officials say tonight at 8, all city residents will receive an automated telephone message through the code red system officially announcing the emergency restrictions.
Tomorrow, city forces will start ticketing those who are watering past their designated hours.
