As the saying goes reading is fundamental.

But a Texoma reading campaign for kids also made it a whole lot of fun today.

The United Way kicked off its Children's Literacy Awareness Week called "I Heart Books Week" this morning at Sikes Senter mall.

Dozens of little ones packed the JcPenney court in their pajamas to hear KFDX anchor Gwyn Bevel read "Llama Llama Red Pajama," who was also sporting pajamas.

Coordinators say the event was designed to raise awareness on the impact reading has on boosting children's learning skills.

"The whole involvement of all the children gets the kids stirred up and excited and ready to learn and be a part and they can see how much fun reading is," said Jennifer Heidleberg, a Quanah resident.

Today's "I Heart Book Week" also included a petting zoo of llamas.

If you missed out on today's reading, you can still take part in the all the fun.

A pajama party will be held each day next week through February 14, Valentines Day in the area with Mechell Dixon and reporter Lindsey Wopschall taking part in a reading party.
