Your four-legged friend has a greater chance of contracting a silent killer-- heartworms.
They are parasites that live in the hearts and pulmonary arteries of infected animals and can cause death.
While they can be prevented through treatment they can also be detected early through a simple blood test.
And this month a Wichita Falls pet clinic wants to help you keep your pet's hearts healthy by making that test more affordable.
PETS Low Cost Spay and Neuter Clinic is reducing its heartworm test from $18 dollars to just $9 during the month of February.
Appointments are not necessary.
Just head to the PETS Clinic at 400 Bridge Street in Wichita Falls.
They are open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and this Saturday, February 16th, from 12 to 4 p.m.
Pets officials say keeping your pet's heart healthy is especially important in Texas since animals here have a greater chance of contracting heartworms year round thanks to the state's milder winter.
