Twitter is getting into the e-commerce business. The social media service has teamed up with American Express to turn the site into a social media shopping site.

American Express members who sign up will be able to buy products by mentioning the appropriate hashtag in a tweet. The new service was launched this week with a number of special product offers.

The companies say wrapping the entire purchasing process in a hashtag makes buying fast and easy. If it takes off, we could see hashtags for products in commercials and print ads.
