Two Texomans are overjoyed to be on land and back home, after a fire sparked on the Carnival Cruise ship Triumph they were on.

What was suppose to be a lavish get away turned to be a test of survival, one burkburnett couple camped out on a cot for 5 days hoping to see land again.

Scott and Rhonda Simmons were all smiles at the start of their cruise on carnival triumph to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary.

"I was constantly telling him about the food, and the fun times, and the things to do when we were in Cozumel," said Rhonda Simmons, a passenger on Triumph cruise ship.

But their landmark celebration quickly set sail in for the worst.

"All of a sudden a little security guard lady came running down the hall screaming, banging on the doors telling them get to the roam lodge, get to the roam lodge," she said.

A fire sparked in the ship's engine room and the Simmons had to evacuate their 1st floor room.

For the five days they stayed on a cot with two chairs in the hallway of the ship's mustard deck, very close to some fellow passengers.

"We became really good friends, i mean we really really bonded. If it wasn't for the McCords and Stevens I am not sure we could have gotten through that whole ordeal," Simmons said.

An ordeal which had them living by faith.

"We really weren't scared, we weren't scared because we knew the lord was looking out for us," she said.

And though the two say they weren't prepared for what they experienced they say the trip did exactly what they hoped it would do, bring them closer together.

The Simmons say the Carnival Cruise crew members were wonderful, making their accommodations the best they could with what they had.

And as far as going on another cruise, they say they aren't opposed to it, but they won't be climbing aboard anytime soon.
