Wichita Falls very own minor league professional football team took the field for the first time today.

The Wichita Falls Nighthawks stormed the field, ready to kick off their season opener.

"I feel like I am at the super bowl, we are so excited," said Sharan Wickware, a mother of a Nighthawk's player.

Thousands of fans sat eagerly in the stands, but it wasn't just for the game.

"He's just a very spiritual guy, and a great leader. We are excited to get to see him."

NFL quarterback Tim Tebow made an appearance and signed autographs on the sidelines moments before the the game.

But it was even earlier when the days events began.

Wichita falls' gold coats were there to help cut the ribbon honoring the opening of the Nighthawks season.

They also hosted a free tailgate for fans leading up to the game.

And while it may be just the beginning for these players and fans, you can bet they'll all be saying, "Go Nighthawks."

Nighthawk officials say they sold more than 11 thousand tickets pre-sale.

The next time they take the field at Memorial Stadium will be Sunday, March 10th.
