The sound of a trumpet started this morning's memorial service at the Holiday Inn at the Falls, followed by words from a Sheppard Air Force Base chaplain.
Veterans heard how this reunion connects the younger generation with members who have been called "The Greatest Generation."
But more importantly, it this annual reunion allows those who fought in the battle of Iwo Jima to come together.
"We get to see somebody we don't get to see but once a year. And all and all i enjoy it," said James Magers, an Iwo Jima veteran.
The Sheppard Air Force Base honor guard also participated in today's memorial service, before it
and the 22nd Annual Iwo Jima Reunion came to an end.
