The Wichita Falls Police Department enters what officials call an elite group of departments across the state.
This morning, officials with the Texas Best Practices Commission awarded WFPD as a "recognized law enforcement agency."
It means the department exceeded expectations in more than 165 best business practices for Texas law enforcement.
There are more than 26-hundred police departments in Texas.
WFPD is one of only 76 departments in the state to receive this award.
Chief Manuel Borrego says, "It just goes to show that this is a true calling for a lot of these officers.  This is really what they want to do in life.  This police department is a lot to them, and they're willing to do everything they can to ensure that we maintain the highest standards."
WFPD must continue to meet these standards to receive the recognition.
Commission officials say they'll perform another on-site evaluation of the department in four years.
