MSU and WFISD Partner To Provide Scholarships for Wichita Falls Students

Midwestern State University and the Wichita Falls School District are teaming up to offer students scholarship money for achieving excellence in school.

The hope and the goal is to keep the students in the community after they graduate college to help boost our local economy.

WFISD students have new motivation to achieve excellence in the classroom.

MSU and the Wichita Falls School District are joining forces to offer students big bucks for academic success.

Through various scholarships MSU will offer students anywhere from one to $28,000 over the course of their 4 year college education, making many students dreams of higher education attainable.

"For so many of our kids college is expensive, and their parents just don't have the means to provide that support," said Debbie Dipprey, the Principal at Wichita Falls High School.

Students who graduate from Rider, Hirschi or Old High, with a class rank in the top 10 percent are now automatically eligible to receive a scholarship of $2,000.

One thousand dollars will be given to those ranked between 11 and 25 percent in their class.

Valedictorians and salutatorians will also be eligible to receive $16,000 in scholarship.

And at least one of MSU's 10 President's Distinguished Scholarships awarding $28,000 will be given.

School officials are hoping these new awards will keep these students close to home.

"See it as an investment in our economic development in the long term," said Dr. John Frossard, the WFISD Superintendent.

Now students will be enticed to find their work within city limits, like Dipprey who was educated by the WFISD and MSU, and is now working in the community.

"Everything I have been able to accomplish I have learned from those two entities," said Dipprey.

These scholarships will be in addition to any financial aid and other scholarships a student might receives.
