Effie Caffee Dies After Celebrating 111th Birthday

Nearly two weeks after celebrating her 111th birthday the oldest person in Texas has died.

Nine days ago, family and friends celebrate Effie Caffee's birthday with a party at Royal Estates independent living community.

Caffee was born on February 11th, 1902, and as of that day she was verified by the Gerontology Research Group as the oldest living person in the state of Texas and the 12th oldest in the United States and the 61st oldest in the world.

She had an infectious smile that lit up a room.

Her daughter tells us, she died peacefully Saturday, shortly after 3 a.m. with her family by her side.

Visitation for Effie Mae Caffee is Monday night from 6 to 7:30 at Owens and Brumley Funeral Home of Burkburnett.

Her funeral is Tuesday afternoon at 1 p.m. at first United Methodist Church in Burkburnett.
