Two Lawton Officers Return to Work after Gunshot Investigation

By: Greg Parker
Updated: February 28, 2013

Two Lawton police officers are back on duty after the district attorney finds they did nothing wrong in a standoff earlier this month in which a woman died from a gunshot wound.

Sergeant Anthony Bray and Lieutenant Darrell Southerland were dispatched to a home on North West Oak Street in Lawton. When they arrived they reported that 30-year-old Lauren Haskins was suicidal and attempted to negotiate with her.

Officers say during those attempts, Haskins pulled out a gun. According to police, both officers fired with their shotguns. However, the Oklahoma medical examiner says Haskins died of a self inflicted gun shot wound.

After the investigation, OSBI handed the case to Comanche County District Attorney Fred Smith who ruled that both officers did not do anything wrong and were justified in their actions.
