By: Melissa Foy
Updated: February 28, 2013
Nearly 177 years ago, the Texas Declaration of Independence was adopted, creating the Republic of Texas.
This Saturday is the anniversary of the signing of the document and you can take part in a Texoma event celebrating Texas' freedom.
The Daughters of the Republic of Texas will host the celebration at Fort Richardson State Park.
It's located in the two-hundred block of Park Road 61 in Jacksboro.
Historians will re-enact time periods in Texas history.
The event starts at 10 in the morning and lasts until four in the afternoon.
The celebration is free, but park entry fees still apply.
For more information, call 567-3506.
