An Austin police officer shot and killed a man in North Austin early Friday, a police official said.

The person, described as a white male, was shot in the 10000 block of Lanshire Drive near Kramer Lane and Metric Boulevard in North Austin, the official said.
The incident occurred before 8 a.m., officials said.

Neighbors describe the Quail Ridge subdivision where the shooting took place as a relatively quiet neighborhood with a mix of modest homes and duplexes.
David Trevino, who lives a few homes away, said he initially heard two gunshots around 7:25 a.m.

Trevino then walked outside and didn't see anything initially. He said he then he heard two more shots and saw an Austin police patrol vehicle nearby.
When Trevino took a closer look, he saw a man lying in front of his house.

"It's unsettling," Trevino said.

Austin police officials expect to release additional details later this morning.
