DNA Evidence Leads to Arrest of Sexual Assault Suspect

Updated: March 1, 2013

Police say DNA evidence leads to the arrest of a sexual assault suspect nearly 12 years after the assault. Police say he's guilty of a more recent sexual assault as well.

35-year-old Jonathan James is charged with sexual assault. He's also charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child. Officers say while they were investigation the recent assault, they found a case from may 2001 in which a 19-year-old woman reported James raped her in a motel room.

The victim reported the assault the next day. Police say she then moved out of the city because James was threatening her and her family and detectives weren't able to locate her. But through new tools and databases, police located the woman.

Early last month, she was able to identify James in a photo line-up. James remains in the Wichita County Jail on $250,000 in bonds.
