Many memories were made at a Wichita Falls softball complex off Maplewood before it was converted for a new use.
Now today's generation will be able to make a new type of memory on the same land.
Texas Parks and Wildlife officials want to turn the Maplewood Storm Water Retention Pond into a fishing pond.
They plan on stocking it with hundreds of large mouth bass.
They say doing so will provide a convenient new fishing opportunity in town.
Tom Lang, district fishery supervisor, says, "Fishing close to home is very important.  We can't always run to Arrowhead, we can't always run to Kickapoo.  People can go fish on a lunch break, catch a couple fish, put them back, and have a smile on their face the rest of the day."
Because city crews won't be needed to make any renovations to the property, the plans don't have to be approved by city council.
Parks and wildlife officials say they'll proceed with the project and hope to have a grand opening for the pond in the next couple months.
