30-year-old Robert Engel of Wichita Falls is facing charges of evading and resisting arrest. DPS Sgt. Toby Catlin says the chase began in Bellevue when a deputy attempted to pull the 1996 Lincoln Town Car over. The vehicle sped off northbound toward Wichita Falls. Troopers say at the peak of the chase, the Lincoln hit top speeds above 100 miles per hour.
Clay and Wichita County deputies assisted in the chase. Spike strips were laid near the Wilson overpass popping 3 of the vehicle's tires. DPS officials say Wichita County deputies fired at the Lincoln but missed the vehicle. The vehicle came to stop at 287 and Windthorst Road near the Love's Truck Stop.
Catlin says Engel was tased before he was arrested. Troopers say they found a small amount of what's believed to be methamphetamine inside the vehicle. He was taken to the Wichita County Jail. Bond has not been set at this time.
