WFFD Offering Firewise Program

By: Mechell Dixon
Updated: March 6, 2013

Wildfire season is quickly approaching so the Wichita Falls Fire Department is offering a new program.

On April 15th, 2011, a wildfire destroyed three homes and damaged a fourth in the Missile Road area, which is why fire officials want to help residents prepare and protect their property through a national program, started in California, called Ready, Set, Go!.

"This is a way that we can teach the public to be personally responsible for their preparedness and their evacuation," says Jon Reese, assistant fire chief with the Wichita Falls Fire Department.

Two free classes are scheduled for the Ready, Set, Go! program.

One is on Thursday, March 21st at Cunningham Elementary School.

The other class is on Tuesday, March 26th, at the Elks Lodge on Seymour Highway.

Both classes start at 7 p.m. and are free.
