Making the Grade Carrigan Career Center

The students competed in Waco for the regional meet and now they are preparing to represent WFISD in Corpus Christi.
Students at Carrigan Career and Technology Center are ready for state.
Several students recently competed at regionals in areas including welding, automotive, construction and cosmetology and now are headed to the state skills usa competition
Eblny Williams says she competed last year but didn't place.
This year the outcome was different.
"Im not going to lie I cried," said Eblny Williams.
She walked away with a first place gold medal in men's hair cuts.
"This has prepared me allot its helped me get ready for whats out there," said Williams.
Misty cantwell also competed but her cuts require something with more bite than scissors....
She participated in the welding category and her cattle gate locked up the prize.
"I built for a local ranch and it was lucky enough to win district and best in show and now I'm just fixing the paint job on it," said Welding student Misty Cantwell.
Misty credits the career center for her metal and welding skills.
"It teaches teenagers like myself allot of good skills that we can take with us in our careers after high school," Cantwell said.
Instructors say they couldn't be more excited with their students showing.
"This is a great organization, great kids to work with and we're making a difference in their lives to make a successful career in being life long learners," siad Welding Instructor Stephen Davis.

In addition to students qualifying for the state skills usa competition the campus has also started its own chapter of the National Technology Honors Society.
Students must keep a G.P.A. of 3.0 and have good attendance in both academic and skills classes.
Also this week, congratulations go out to the Kirby Math and Science team that swept most of the events at the Texas Math and Science coaches association meet.
The Kirby number sense, math and science teams each won first place trophies and the calculator team took 2nd place.
Kirby missed the first lace sweepstakes trophy by just 7 points.
6th grader Alexis Nicolas took first place in number sense, math and science, and qualified for state in each event. And 5 other Kirby students qualified for state.
