breaking news
Assistant fire chief John Reese it started around 7 tonight when a homeowner started a fire in the fireplace and the flue running through the attic, possibly came in contact with something combustible.
Reese says someone passing by noticed smoke coming from the chimney area, on the back side of the house and at least two people inside were able to get out safely.
By the time crews arrived, there was heavy fire and smoke billowing from the roof. Reese says that's when extra crews were called to the 3-alarm fire with a ladder truck so holes could be cut in the 3-story roof for firefighters to get in and so that flames, hot gasses and smoke could get out. Damage is estimated at around $250,000 or more. No one was injured.
