WF Man Previously Charged with Murder Arrested for Drunk Driving

Updated: March 8, 2013

A Wichita Falls man who was cleared last May on charges of killing his daughter and her friend, has been arrested by local authorities for the second time in five months.

42-year-old Jerry Branton Hobbs III is now jailed on charges of drunk driving. Hobbs was arrested five months ago when officers responded to a disturbance on Dee Drive.

A woman told them her brother, Jerry Hobbs, assaulted her while she was arguing with her boyfriend. She said Hobbs stepped between them, then punched her in the face, knocking her to the floor, then hit her on the back of the head several times.

Officers say she didn't want to file charges, but they arrested him. Hobbs was freed in 2010 and returned to Wichita Falls after spending months in jail awaiting trial for the 2005 murders of his daughter Laura Hobbs and her 9-year-old friend Krystal Tobias in an Illinois park.

Another man was charged with the murders after DNA evidence linked him to the deaths.
