Phase one of repairs to a rich piece of Wichita Falls history is nearing completion.
For the past year crews have been making an estimated $480,000 in repairs to the foundation at Kell House Museum, installing new gutters and replacing the roof.
But officials say work on phase one of the project will be finished once the outside second floor banister is repaired and reinstalled.
"The parts that can be reworked are done locally and there's a man in Dallas who's rebuilding some of the pieces that's too badly damaged to repair and put back on. Once those are put back on then the first phase is completely finished," says Delores Culley, Wichita County Heritage Society executive director.
Culley expects the second floor banister to be reinstalled sometime next month.
Then they will start raising funds for phase two which will include repairing damaged brick on the outside of the building, replacing rotted wood and sprucing up the landscaping.
