(KAMR) Joshua Ramirez spent his afternoons after school practicing for his next meet.
The long distance runner was stretching, getting ready for his event in Plainview, Texas during a JV track meet March 8 when a discus rolled into him striking him in the hip.
He reported it to the coach and was immediately taken out of competition.
He was given pain medication and monitored on the bus trip home.
"He never complained. He was that kind of kid," said family friend Saul Tarango.
Two days later, Josh was taken to the emergency room in Hereford complaining of pain.
School officials say Josh was treated for a bruised hip and released.
Four days later, Josh was back in the Hospital with persisitent pain.
He was transferred to an Amarillo hospital and was apparently feeling better, but then suddenly passed away early Sunday morning.
