Quanah Hospital Files for Bankruptcy

By: Larry Statser
Updated: March 22, 2013

A Texoma hospital that's been in financial difficulty for the past decade and more as filed for chapter 9 bankruptcy in its latest attempt to restore a strong footing.

According to a report in the "Quanah Tribune Chief," the Hardeman County Hospital District is seeking chapter 9 financial reorganization.

We attempted to talk with Interim Administratior Dave Clark but have not heard back from him. We have reported on financial problems and attempts to resolve them at the hospital in Quanah since 2003. That year officials blamed mismanagement of funds and inflated payments to doctors.

More recently there were questions concerning finances and billing procedures, and the role of a former administrator who was moved into a consultant position. The Quanah newspaper reports in the past week the hospital district closed one clinic with plans to close one in Paducah, and that contributed to a recent $800,000 loss.

But on a positive point, in the past 6 weeks, Clark said they have cut operating expenses by $1.3 million.
