Spirit of Texoma Award

THIS MONTH'S SPIRIT OF TEXOMA AWARD WINNER SAYS IT IS GREAT TO BE ABLE TO HELP SOMEBODY. AND STEVE RUTH'S EFFORTS ARE TRULY LIGHTING UP THE LIVES OF EVERYBODY HE HELPS. THAT'S WHY HE'S THIS MONTH'S SPIRIT OF TEXOMA AWARD WINNER. STEVE RUTH WANTED TO GIVE TO OTHERS IN THE COMMUNITY...SO HE STARTED TAKING DONATIONS HERE AT HIS JOB AT PRATT AND WHITNEY. Just interest from other employees, my coworkers and the opportunity the boss lets us kind of have meals, have a snack cart and different things to raise money. AND THAT MONEY FROM FOLKS AT THE PLANT GOES TO WORK IN MANY WAYS... FOR THINGS SUCH AS BACKYARD BBQS FOR THE ARC CLIENTS. I got a couple of guys from work to come out and bring a cooker and everybody had a great time. THEY MAKE A DONATION AND TAKE A LAP OR TWO FOR THE AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY AT THE RELAY FOR LIFE. THEY SHOW UP WITH A CHECK IN HAND FOR THE CASA 5K. THEY EVEN PURCHASED BRAND NEW BIKES FOR KIDS AT CHRISTMAS... They are out in the community with foster parents and bicycles are pretty important to kids and so with some of that money we were able to purchase 13 bicycles. STEVE ALSO RECENTLY STARTED VOLUNTEERING FOR CHILD ADVOCATES AND BECAME A CASA OR COURT APPOINTED SPECIAL ADVOCATE. HE SPEAKS UP FOR THE BEST INTEREST OF KIDS WHO ARE ABUSED OR NEGLECTED IN THE COURT ROOM. Where they really need someone there for them to be someone different than a case worker or a teacher, or they know they just need a friend who is able to speak on their behalf. Let everybody know, keep their best interest in everybody's mind as they decide what to do with kids. IN JUST THE FIRST YEAR HIS DEDICATION TO THE KIDS HAS TRULY BEEN REWARDED... HE WAS NOT ONLY NAMED ROOKIE OF THE YEAR...BUT CASA OF THE YEAR FOR THE ENTIRE STATE OF TEXAS. I went down to San Marcos and actually got the award and it was wonderful. AND VERY DESERVING WHEN YOU CONSIDER STEVE OFTEN GOES THAT EXTRA MILE...HE HAD TO TRAVEL TO ALL THE WAY TO HOUSTON TO MEET WITH THE CHILD IN HIS CASE. It's just one simple decision, it's just one decision you make to decide to help one person. It can be one person or ten people, but to make a difference in one person's life it can be anybody. AND MAKING THAT DECISION IS SOMETHING STEVE HOPES OTHERS LOOK INTO...JUST LIKE HIM AND HIS COWORKERS DID AT PRATT AND WHITNEY... STEVE RUTH TRULY HAS THE SPIRIT OF TEXOMA. STEVE AND THE PRATT AND WHITNEY GANG ALSO RENTED A LIMO DURING THE HOLIDAY SEASON SO THEY COULD TAKE THE KIDS WHO LIVE AT THE CHILDREN'S HOME THROUGH LOCAL NEIGHBORHOODS TO LOOK AT CHRISTMAS LIGHTS. OWENS AND BRUMLEY FUNERAL HOMES CONGRATULATE STEVE RUTH FOR HIS DEDICATION TO MANY COMMUNITY CAUSES... AND IF YOU KNOW SOMEONE WHO DESERVES THIS AWARD NOMINATE THEM NOW.
