Heat Advisory:  Indicates a heat index making it feel hot, typically between 105° and 110° for up to 3 hours during the day and at or above 80° at night for two consecutive nights.  Coverage area:  a few counties up to entire states.  Length of time:  2 days up to numerous days.
 
Excessive Heat Warning:  Indicates an extreme heat index making it feel hot, typically 111° and above for up to 3 hours during the day and at or above 80° at night for two consecutive nights.  Avoiding outdoor exposure should be considered to prevent heat related illnesses.  Coverage area:  a few counties up to entire states.  Length of time:  2 days up to numerous days.
