Wind Advisory:  Indicates a sustained wind of 35 miles per hour or greater with gusts to 45 miles per hour or greater are likely.  Winds of this magnitude may blow around yard items and make it difficult for high profile vehicles to maintain control on the roadways.  Coverage area: a few counties to entire states.  Length of time: a few hours to a few days.
 
High Wind Warning:  Indicates sustained winds of 45 miles per hour or greater with frequent gusts to 58 miles per hour or greater are likely.  Winds of this magnitude will blow around yard items and possibly create structural damage to small and unsteady buildings such as pole barns and sheds.  In addition, driving will be difficult if not impossible for high profile vehicles.  Coverage area:  a few counties.  Length of time:  a few hours.
 
Dense Fog Advisory:  Indicates areas where fog may reduce visibility to less than 1/4 mile at times.  Use caution and drive slow through dense areas of fog.  Coverage area:  a few counties to entire states.  Length of time:  a few hours to entire days.
 
Freezing Fog Advisory:  Indicates areas where fog may reduce visibility to less than 1/4 mile at times.  Use caution and drive slow through dense areas of fog.  In addition this fog will freeze on impact with the roadway creating slick roads.  Travel should be restricted or delayed.  Coverage area:  a few counties to entire states.  Length of time:  a few hours.
 
Fire Weather Watch:  Indicates warm temperatures in combination with high winds and low humidity will create the potential for wildfire development in the next 24-48 hours.  Coverage area:  a few counties to entire states.  Length of time:  24 to 48 hours before fire weather conditions begin.
 
Red Flag Warning:  Highly favorable conditions for wildfires, typically for areas under drought conditions with low humidity, high winds and warm temperatures.  Use of flame should be delayed or highly restricted.  Report smoke or flames to local fire departments immediately.  Do not try to put the fire out yourself.  Coverage area:  a few counties to entire states.  Length of time:  24 hours to multiple days.

Fire Warning:  Indicates an active and out of control fire is moving towards a populated area.  Try to determine the exact area of the fire and evacuate away from the blaze.  Coverage area: a county.  Length of time: until the fire is under control or extinguished.
 
Dense Smoke Advisory:  Indicates smoke from nearby wildfires in the air may reduce visibility at times to create hazardous driving conditions.  Generally winds are not considered during this advisory.  Coverage area:  usually one or more counties.  Length of time:  an hour to a few hours.
 
Blowing Dust Advisory:  Indicates dust blowing in the air may reduce visibility at times to create hazardous driving conditions.  Generally winds during this advisory would be sustained at 35 mph for a period of time.  Coverage area:  a few counties.  Length of time:  a few hours.
 
Dust Storm Warning:  Indicates dust blowing in the air will reduce visibility at times to zero creating extremely hazardous driving conditions that could lead to multiple car pile-ups if those driving do not use caution and slow down.  Generally winds during this advisory would be sustained at 35 mph for a period of time.  Coverage area:  a few counties.  Length of time:  a few hours.
 
Wind Chill Advisory:  Indicates wind chills created by cold air and wind will be 0 or less in the advisory area for a period of time.  Bare skin exposure outside during the time may result in frostbite requiring immediate medical care.  Coverage area:  a few counties to entire states.  Length of time:  numerous hours to days.
 
Wind Chill Warning:  Indicates wind chills created by cold air and wind will be -15 or less in the warning area for a period of time.  Bare skin exposure outside during the time may result in damage requiring emergency medical care.  Coverage area:  a few counties to entire states.  Length of time:  numerous hours to days.
